Teeth cleaning Gdańsk – take care of a beautiful smile and oral health

Our dental clinic focuses not only on comprehensive dental treatment but also on prevention, which is the key to a healthy smile and self-confidence. Daily oral hygiene, although extremely important, is not able to remove all deposits and plaque accumulated in hard-to-reach areas. Below, we explain in detail what professional dental hygiene treatment involves, the benefits it offers, and why it is essential for maintaining both the health and aesthetics of your smile. We also present the professional techniques and tools we use during this safe and comfortable procedure to ensure the best possible results.

What does professional oral hygiene involve?

Simply put, professional dental hygiene treatment involves preventive cleaning of the teeth, removing plaque and tartar in a dental clinic. It is an effective way to protect teeth and the oral cavity from bacteria, which are the direct cause of many diseases. It complements daily home oral hygiene by eliminating deposits that are difficult to remove on your own. Bacteria often develop in areas that are hard to reach with a toothbrush, such as interdental spaces and small cracks. To effectively prevent the development of tooth decay, professional dental hygiene should be performed at least once every six months. Modern dental hygiene treatments are based on advanced technologies that not only clean the surface of the teeth from plaque and tartar, but also remove biofilm from the gums, gum pockets, and other soft tissues of the oral cavity.

How do we perform dental hygiene treatment at HCentrum?

HCentrum is a Certified GBT clinic, which means that we follow the Guided Biofilm Therapy protocol. It is a modern oral hygiene method developed by the Swiss company EMS (Electro Medical Systems). This innovative technology uses advanced equipment to effectively remove plaque, deposits, and tartar, ensuring comprehensive cleaning of the oral cavity. GBT focuses on biofilm, a bacterial and organic layer that forms on surfaces in the oral cavity, including teeth, gums, and implants. Biofilm can be difficult to remove with traditional hygiene methods such as brushing or flossing. With GBT, the dental hygienist can precisely and gently remove biofilm without damaging tooth surfaces or gums.

GBT – basic steps

At HCentrum, we use the latest hygiene device, the AirFlow Prophylaxis Master. This system combines supragingival and subgingival air polishing with an ultrasonic scaler. Of course, every patient is different, so the first step is always an assessment of oral health. This is followed by biofilm disclosure – a special solution stains the biofilm red (fresh) or blue (mature). This allows the patient to see areas that require more thorough cleaning. It is also a good moment to motivate proper oral care, highlight the importance of prevention, and provide hygiene instructions. The GBT procedure then consists of three key stages:
  1. AIRFLOW®: A stream of air, water, and fine polishing powder is used to gently clean tooth surfaces and other areas of the oral cavity from biofilm, deposits, and stains. The powder is safe for soft tissues and teeth, making the procedure non-invasive and comfortable.
  2. PERIOFLOW®: This stage uses a special applicator to remove biofilm and deposits from periodontal areas, especially hard-to-reach places such as gum pockets, helping to prevent periodontal disease.
  3. PIEZON®: In the final stage, remaining tartar is removed using a minimally invasive ultrasonic tip.
After completing all stages, the hygienist checks whether the biofilm and tartar have been completely removed. The visit concludes with planning future treatments, the frequency of which depends on the patient’s individual needs. GBT is not only an effective method of removing biofilm and deposits, but it is also less invasive than standard techniques and does not cause discomfort. It has significantly changed how patients perceive professional hygiene, encouraging them to return for regular visits.

Consequences of neglect – what can untreated tartar lead to?

If tartar is not removed regularly, it can lead to many health problems:
  • Tooth decay: Tartar creates an ideal environment for bacteria that attack tooth enamel. This leads to cavities that require treatment and fillings. Untreated decay may contribute to serious chronic systemic diseases and inflammation in the body.
  • Gum inflammation: Accumulated tartar irritates the gums, leading to gingivitis. Symptoms include redness, swelling, and bleeding during brushing.
  • Periodontal disease: Untreated tartar can result in a more advanced form of gum disease – periodontitis. This leads to destruction of the supporting tissues of the teeth and may ultimately cause tooth loss.
  • Bad breath: Bacteria present in tartar release unpleasant odors, causing bad breath.
  • Infections and systemic issues: Ignoring tartar can lead to oral infections, which in severe cases may affect overall health.
  • Aesthetic problems: Tartar buildup can make teeth appear yellow or dull, negatively affecting the appearance of the smile.
Do not neglect your oral health – taking care of your teeth and gums brings long-term benefits and improves quality of life.

Dental hygiene treatment – results

Performed by qualified dental professionals, professional hygiene treatment aims to precisely and effectively remove tartar and plaque that have accumulated on tooth surfaces. Thanks to this procedure, it is possible to prevent tooth decay, reduce the risk of gum inflammation, periodontal disease, and other dental conditions. Additionally, in-office hygiene treatment improves the overall aesthetics of the smile by removing discoloration and stains, while also freshening the breath. Regular hygiene procedures are an essential part of prevention, helping patients maintain healthy, bright teeth for longer and positively influencing their overall well-being.

Does hygienization hurt?

Oral hygiene treatment, whether performed using traditional methods or Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT), should not be painful, although sensations may vary depending on individual factors such as tooth sensitivity or gum condition. GBT is particularly recommended for patients with sensitive teeth or weakened gums, as it allows effective removal of biofilm and deposits without irritating the tissues. For many patients, it can therefore be a more comfortable experience compared to traditional methods. It is important to note, however, that individual experiences during hygiene treatment may differ, and patients should communicate any discomfort to the dentist or dental hygienist. Professionals can then adjust the procedure to individual needs and make it more comfortable for the patient.

Orthodontic hygiene treatment

Orthodontic braces, although highly effective in correcting malocclusions and achieving a beautiful smile, can make it more difficult to maintain proper oral hygiene. Therefore, taking care of the health of teeth and gums during orthodontic treatment is essential to prevent cavities, inflammation, and other dental problems. For orthodontic patients, the need for professional dental hygiene treatment may arise more frequently than for other patients. This is because braces create additional spaces where food particles and plaque can easily accumulate, eventually mineralizing into tartar. Moreover, tartar can interfere with tooth movement and slow down the progress of orthodontic treatment. For this reason, the hygienist determines when tartar removal is necessary to ensure proper treatment progress. Hygiene treatment following the GBT protocol can be safely performed in patients with orthodontic braces. It does not damage the appliance and allows for thorough cleaning of the areas around it. During a hygiene visit, patients wearing braces may also receive valuable advice on brushing techniques and the proper selection of tools to maintain oral cleanliness and health throughout orthodontic treatment.
